The India Meteorological Department has issued severe rainfall warnings across states, along with red alerts in key regions. The warnings come as western and southern India gets impacted by monsoon activity, hampering daily life, reported ET.

Delhi is expected to see cloudy skies with the possibility of light to moderate rain in some areas on June 19, according to IMD. Thunderstorm and lightning are also expected to hit the national capital with gusty winds of speed upto 40–50 kmph that could temporarily reach 60 kmph towards night.

This provides relief from the heatwave conditions that Delhi experienced last week. However, this relief from heatwave conditions is expected to continue till June 24.

Widespread Rainfall Hits States

IMD also predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall on June 19 for several parts in northern and northeast India, reported Mint.

According to HT, IMD has issued a yellow alert for isolated places in Mumbai, predicting a heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, Raigad and Ratnagiri, under an orange alert, are expected to receive very heavy rainfall.

In Jharkhand, heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall is very likely in some parts of Jharkhand on June 18-19, as the southwest monsoon covered the entire state, bringing widespread precipitation, reported HT.

Monsoon had arrived in Jharkhand on June 17, covering 18 out of the 24 districts. "It advanced into the remaining districts – Latehar, Hazaribag, Koderma, Garhwa, Palamu and Chatra on Wednesday,” Deputy Director of Ranchi Meteorological Centre, Abhishek Anand, told PTI.

Jharkhand had witnessed 52-per cent rainfall deficiency till June 17 from June 1. It, however, registered 7% surplus rainfall till June 18 from June 1 after fresh downpour in the past 24 hours, the official said.
