Amid rapid technology adoption, data security has emerged as a major concern, making India’s indigenous cloud infrastructure crucial for safeguarding domestic data, said S. Krishnan, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, on Thursday.
“As a country, we generate millions and millions of terabytes and megabytes of data, which is stored in multiple places, not just in India, but across the world. Eventually, when we have to have a resilient ecosystem within the country, it's important that the most crucial data is stored in the country itself,” said Krishnan.
He also highlighted the scale at which India is currently driving its digital economy.
“The digital economy has already grown from about 6 to 7% of India's overall economy to reach almost about, expected to reach almost about, 20% by the end of this decade. When we reach that, it is important that we are equipped in every way to handle all the opportunities that it provides. And this is one of the ways in which we are building the infrastructure needed to enable that,” he added.
MeitY Secretary was virtually joined the launch of TCS SovereignSecureTM Cloud, TCS DigiBOLTTM, and TCS Cyber Defense Suite in New Delhi.

“The wealth of data that we create can be used by our entrepreneurs and by our innovators to create more offerings, to innovate further, to actually see that the country is set on a growth path by using the digital economy — by using digital technologies much more effectively,” said MeitY Secretary.
He mentioned that India is a global leader in digital public infrastructure, and in that context, the sovereign cloud offering will be another valuable addition to India's own internet stack.
“I congratulate TCS for creating this new offering, and I wish them the very best in working with all their partners, including the government, and taking this further,” he added.
