OpenAI and Meta initiated discussions separately with Reliance Industries regarding a potential partnership to expand their artificial intelligence offerings in India, according to a report by The Information. To make its service more accessible, a reduction of the subscription price of ChatGPT by 75 -85% from the current $20 per month is also likely.
This collaboration between Reliance Jio and OpenAI aims at the distribution of ChatGPT, the report said, citing two sources familiar with the matter. However, the technology news website also added that it is not sure if OpenAI has discussed the idea of price reduction with Reliance.
Reliance discussed the probability of selling OpenAI models to its enterprises via users via an application programming interface or API. The Mukesh Ambani-led conglomerate is also reportedly discussing the possibility of hosting and running OpenAI's models locally to safeguard the data of local customers and to keep it within the country.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently revealed that India is the company's second-biggest market. He also informed that the company has tripled its user base last year.
Reliance Plans World's Largest Data Centre
As per reports, Reliance is planning to build a three-gigawatt data center in Jamnagar, Gujarat and run the Meta and OpenAI models. This is projected to be the biggest data centers in the world.
Reliance Industries is one of the largest conglomerates in India, engaged in petrochemicals, refining, oil and gas exploration, telecommunications, retail and green energy.
