IT services giant Wipro has announced a $200 million investment in its investment arm, Wipro Ventures, bringing its total investment to $500 million.
This is the fourth funding round by Wipro Ventures since its inception 10 years ago. Wipro uses the unit to invest in early- to mid-stage startups.
“This latest investment reaffirms our commitment to helping startups grow faster, innovate, and collaborate with the IT services industry to support large enterprises. We envision a collaborative ecosystem where these emerging technologies can be deployed globally, drive progress, and create sustainable value for all stakeholders involved,” Wipro CEO and MD Srini Pallia said in a statement.
Wipro Ventures says they connect Wipro and its clients to disruptive technologies by tapping into global startups. Beyond direct investments, Wipro Ventures has also formed partnerships with enterprise-focused venture capital funds worldwide, such as SYN Ventures.
Focus on Industry-Specific Solutions
Wipro Ventures was founded in 2015 to identify and invest in early-stage startups. Since then, it has invested in 37 startups in areas such as artificial intelligence, data & analytics, cybersecurity, and cloud infrastructure, deploying solutions. The company says it has helped serve over 250 Wipro customers globally. Its portfolio includes names like Tuskira, Tradeshift, Vectra, NetSpring, Kibsi, among others.
Wipro Ventures has also exited 12 of these investments. According to Wipro Ventures' website, some of the startups it has invested in have been acquired by Microsoft, Palo Alto Networks, Dell Technologies, and Optimizely, among others.
Biplab Adhya, managing partner of Wipro Ventures, in an interview with Moneycontrol, said that their investment focuses on creating industry-specific solutions rather than foundational technologies such as language models, GPUs, and data centers. Wipro Ventures is investing in agentic AI frameworks.
"Our strategy has been to deploy investments ranging from $1 million to $10 million, but our sweet spot is typically between $2-$5 million per round," he also said.
