HDFC Bank’s internal probe found evidence that two senior executives shared confidential business strategies and potentially market-sensitive information with outsiders
The executives oversee key businesses and functions, and the bank launched the investigation after concerns about possible information leaks
The investigation is ongoing, with the bank examining whether the information was misused before deciding on further action
HDFC Bank’s internal investigation has found evidence that two senior executives shared confidential business strategies and potentially market-sensitive information with external parties, as per a report by Bloomberg.
The executives oversee key businesses and functions at the bank, the report said.
The findings come as India’s largest bank by market capitalisation examines a possible breach of internal confidentiality requirements and whether the information disclosed to outsiders was subsequently misused.
The investigation was initiated after some bank leaders raised concerns about the possibility of confidential information being leaked, as per BBG. The internal probe identified the two executives, although the bank is continuing its examination of the matter.
The investigation has yet to establish whether the information shared externally was misused. The bank has not publicly identified the executives or disclosed details of the information allegedly shared, the report said.
An HDFC Bank spokesperson confirmed that an internal review was underway but did not comment on the findings or the identities of the executives involved.

“In line with our policies, an internal review into this matter is currently underway to gather and evaluate all relevant facts,” the spokesperson said, as per BBG. “Appropriate action will be taken based on the findings, once the review is complete.”
Bank Says It Takes Potential Violations Seriously
The bank said it remained committed to maintaining high standards of ethics and governance and took reports of potential violations seriously.
The review is expected to determine the relevant facts before the bank decides on any further action, according to the spokesperson’s statement, per the BBG report.
The development places the focus on the handling of confidential business information within the bank, particularly where disclosures could involve information with potential market implications.
