Two earthquakes struck Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district early August 20, measuring 3.3 and 4.0 on the Richter scale.
The tremors occurred hours apart; no injuries or property damage were reported.
Earlier, a 3.9-magnitude quake was recorded near Dharamshala on August 18, also causing no damage.

NCS Confirms Twin Tremors
According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the first earthquake with magnitude of 3.3 on the Richter scale hit the region at 3.27 am, while the second quake with the magnitude of 4 was experienced at 4.39 am.
“EQ of M: 4.0, On: 20/08/2025 04:39:45 IST, Lat: 32.71 N, Long: 76.11 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Chamba, Himachal Pradesh,” NCS wrote on X.
Earlier, an earthquake of magnitude 3.3 jolted the Chamba district at 03:27:09 IST with a depth of 20 kilometres.
“EQ of M: 3.3, On: 20/08/2025 03:27:09 IST, Lat: 32.87 N, Long: 76.09 E, Depth: 20 Km, Location: Chamba, Himachal Pradesh,” informed NCS on X.
No damages or injury has been reported so far.
On August 18, tremors were felt in parts of Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district after an earthquake of 3.9 magnitude struck near Dharamshala town at 9.28 pm. No loss of life and property was reported from any part of the state. The epicentre of the quake was 23 km away from Dharamshala, at 32.23 N latitude and 76.38 E longitude, a Met official said. The depth of the quake was 10 km. The Kangra district falls under seismic zone 5, which is a high damage risk zone.
