As Elon Musk is ready to expand his Tesla empire in India, looking to fill as many as 13 staff positions in the country, Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) Group's chairman Anand Mahindra shares his plans to handle competition from the EV giant.
"We have been asked similar questions ever since the opening up of the Indian economy in 1991. How will you compete against: Tata, Maruti, All MNCs?," Mahindra posted on X, responding to a user who asked if he's ready to handle the competition from Musk-led Tesla Inc.
"But we’re still around. And working like maniacs to still be around & relevant even a century from now. With you cheering us on, we will make that happen…," added the Mahindra chairman.
Meanwhile, the company's managing director Anish Shah said that they are unfazed by Tesla's potential entry into the Indian market while speaking at the NDTV Profit Conclave in Mumbai.
"Our products speak for themselves," said Shah, adding that the strength and resilience shown by domestic manufacturers provide an opportunity for India to emerge as a "manufacturing hub".
Shah also denied the adverse impact of Tesla's entry on domestic manufacturers. "India can manufacture at scale and lower cost...Our EVs that have come in are entirely manufactured in India," he noted.
Elon Musk's Entry Plan to India
Tesla Inc. has hinted at its entry into the Indian market by posting openings for 13 job vacancies on its LinkedIn in the country, days after the CEO met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Most of the jobs are based in Mumbai and Delhi.
Of these, five jobs are for service technicians and advisory roles in Mumbai and Delhi. The remaining eight job vacancies are for customer engagement manager and delivery operations specialist, based in Mumbai. The job titles for these roles are Service and Parts Advisor, Service Technician, Store Manager, Business Operations Analyst, Customer Support Supervisor, and more.
