Ahmedabad-based Studio Design Games is capitalising on Indian mythology

With mythology being the buzzword of the year gone by, it wasn’t long before a string of start-ups started capitalising on the trend. And first in line is Ahmedabad-based Studio Dream Games, which has built a mobile gaming business focused primarily on Indian mythology. Founder Umang Mathur says the target is to deliver mythology-based content to both Indians and NRIs using the smartphone platform.

“The idea for our proprietary game Rama Force came from my family members, who are avid gamers and are glued to such apps on their mobile devices. With our game, we want people to experience the tale of the Ramayana, which you would otherwise only read about in holy books,” says the 30-year-old.

With his family’s support and an investment of ₹1 crore, Mathur launched Studio Dream Games in August 2014, refurbishing and relaunching the app environment in October with added features and user-friendly initiatives. Rama Force is available for download on Apple and Android-based app stores for free and revenue is earned through advertisements and in-app purchases.

“Though the overall response to the app was as strong as expected, we received a lot more traffic from Indians abroad,” adds Mathur, who has an advertising background. At present, the company has 11 employees on its rolls and is looking for investors to help it become a hub for entertaining India-centric visual concepts and games.
