Sharp Business Systems (India) Pvt Ltd on Monday said it has tied up with Amber Enterprises India Ltd to locally produce air conditioners in India.
The move strengthens the company's expansion plans in one of the world's fastest-growing cooling markets Sharp Business Systems (India) Pvt Ltd, the wholly-owned Indian arm of Japan's Sharp Corporation, said in a statement.
Over the next five years, the company aims to capture a 2-3% share of the Indian air conditioner market, which is estimated to have crossed annual sales of 1 crore units mark, by expanding its product portfolio and strengthening its distribution network across the country.

Under the partnership, Sharp’s air conditioners will be manufactured at Amber's facilities in Dehradun and Sri City, with production scheduled to begin in March 2026.
The collaboration aims to scale manufacturing to 5 lakh units over the next three years, enabling Sharp to strengthen product availability in the Indian market, the statement said.
"India continues to be a strategically important market for Sharp, and we see strong long-term growth potential in the cooling appliances segment. Strengthening our manufacturing ecosystem through tie-ups such as this reinforces our commitment to the Indian market," Sharp Business Systems (India) Managing Director Osamu Narita said.
Citing industry estimates, the company said the room air conditioner market in India has crossed 1 crore units annually and is expected to grow at a double-digit CAGR, with demand expanding rapidly beyond metro cities into Tier II and Tier III markets.
Sharp Appliances Division Chief Business Officer Mimoh Jain said India is one of the fastest-growing markets for air conditioners globally. The company had restarted its air conditioner business in India last year and, despite a challenging year for the category it had received a good response.
As part of its next phase of expansion, Sharp said it is preparing to introduce a wider portfolio of air conditioners in India, including window ACs, split ACs and commercial air conditioning solutions.
