Reserve bank of India (RBI) has received a bomb threat via an email on Friday. According to ANI, the email to ‘blow up the bank’ was sent to the official website of the central bank in the Russian language. A case has been registered and reportedly the investigation has started.

“A threatening email was received on the official website of Reserve Bank of India. The email was in Russian language, warned to blow up the bank. A case has been registered against unknown accused in Mata Ramabai Marg (MRA Marg) police station,” ANI reported, citing Zone 1 DCP.

This isn’t the first bomb threat received by RBI, earlier in November this year, the regulator’s customer care number got similar threats via call. The person on the call claimed to be the “CEO of Lashkar-e-Taiba" and reportedly sang a song before giving a bomb threat.

After school and flights, bomb threats ring alarm bells for RBI now

The threat to RBI has come just hours after similar threats were received by schools in Delhi, including Bhatnagar Public School in Paschim Vihar, Cambridge School in Srinivaspuri and Delhi Public School in East of Kailash.

The bomb threats have become quite frequent in the past few months. Nearly 100 Indian airlines, like IndiGo, Air India and Vistara received a similar threats. Around 16 cases were registered earlier this month and the national investigation agency is likely to investigate it.

“The matter is related to national security, and it has an international ramification. All these 16 cases were registered under the suppression of Unlawful Acts against Safety of Civil Aviation (SUA SCA) Act with BNS sections and they needed deeper probe,” PTI reported, citing official sources.

Addressing the increase in the number of false bomb threats, the union civil aviation minister K Rammohan Naidu said the government is mulling to amend laws to make them stricter and banning those individuals involved in bomb hoaxes from boarding flights.
