IIT placements: The topic of 'jobs in the IT space' is once again gaining attention. But thankfully, this time for all the right reasons. Jane Street, among the top trading firms on Wall Street, has reportedly offered an IIT student a massive annual package of Rs 4.3 crore. The package, offered for a role in Hong Kong, includes salary, bonus and relocation perks.

This also makes it the highest offer of this placement season.

As per sources cited in a report by the Economic Times, the offer from the high-frequency trading firm went to a computer science student from IIT Madras through a pre-placement offer (PPO) route.

The student is one of the few across select IITs who had interned with Jane Street previously. The offer is for a quantitative trader role based in Hong Kong.

Top Salary Packages

As per the placement cells (of various institutes), some of the biggest offers so far include Rs 2 crore-plus packages from firms like BlackRock, Glean and Da Vinci. Other notable offers include Rs 1.4 crore-plus from APT Portfolio and Rubrik, Rs 1.3 crore-plus from Databricks, Ebullient Securities and IMC Trading. Other companies such as Quantbox and Graviton have also offered a massive annual salary package of Rs 90 lakh.

On the first day of placement, major recruiters such as Qualcomm, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Bajaj Auto, Ola Electric, Alphonso and Nutanix were among those making offers, as per the report.

Despite the jaw-dropping salary figures, it is worth mentioning that early high-value offers don’t guarantee the total number of students landing jobs. But comparing the situation with last year's placement season, the overall mood is much more optimistic this year.

Even in the domestic space, many IT giants are resuming their call on hiring after a brief pause.
