The Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) on Tuesday filed another complaint against Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) over the delay in onboarding experienced professionals after issuing them offer letters.
In a letter to Minister of Labour & Employment Mansukh Mandaviya, the IT workers' body said that more than 600 lateral hires — experienced professionals who had accepted employment offers from the Tata Group's IT major "in good faith and resigned from their previous organizations" — are now being told to wait indefinitely to join the company. These techies come from cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Delhi.
"With experience ranging from 2 to 18 years, these individuals were contributing members of their former organizations and had looked forward to continuing their professional journey with a trusted name like TCS. Unfortunately, upon reporting to the company on their designated joining dates, they were informed of an indefinite delay in onboarding," NITES wrote in the letter, adding that no official communication, revised schedule, or assurance has been provided since.
"These individuals are now unemployed, struggling with household responsibilities, EMIs, rent, and basic livelihood needs... Every day, we receive desperate calls and emails from professionals who feel abandoned and deceived," the letter added.
This is not the first time TCS or its IT services sector peers have delayed onboarding after issuing offer letters. Post-pandemic, most IT giants including Infosys, TCS, Wipro, and others rolled out thousands of offers to fresh graduates due to a surge in demand for their services. However, as these deals dried up, companies began delaying onboarding. The delay severely impacted the batch of 2022.
In 2023, it was reported that TCS delayed onboarding of at least 200 experienced techies. At the time, TCS Chief Human Resources Officer Milind Lakkad cited project delays as the reason. Though he claimed that the company would honour its offers.
Today, it seems to be happening again. Candidates are publicly calling out the company for the delays on job search websites like LinkedIn and Glassdoor.
"My tentative doj jul 30 2025 in tcs was postponed without mentioning new joining date by HR stating delay in project alignments. My last working day is about to end by jul 25 2025. Should i revoke my resignation upuntill i receive call letter from TCS as I don't want to be jobless for several months or should i keep waiting," a user wrote yesterday on a Glassdoor community wall.
"Selected by TCS in Dec, cleared all rounds, submitted docs by Jan. Due to internal delays, offer came in Feb. I resigned and was set to onboard on 30th June. On 28th June, TCS flagged missing employment info—despite prior HR communication. Submitted all docs, but onboarding was postponed. It's been 20+ days with no job or update—first time in my career I'm sitting at home unemployed due to TCS delay. This has caused financial and emotional stress," another user wrote.
During the first quarter of FY26, the company once again flagged business uncertainty. CEO K Krithivasan noted that the trend of delays in deal closures had intensified during the quarter.
“Overall, it’s too early to say when growth will resume, which to a great extent depends on more clarity emerging around the macroeconomic scenario,” said Krithivasan while addressing the press.
CHRO Lakkad also acknowledged that hiring had hit a roadblock, without offering specific details.
“We began hiring at the start of the year, but later faced some business challenges. As a result, some imbalances may be observed. That said, it’s not a major concern as we plan to leverage these resources in the future,” he said.
During the April–June period, TCS added 6,071 new employees, bringing its total workforce to 6,13,069 as of June 30, 2025.
“We can confirm that, as always, TCS is committed to honour all offers we have made, whether it is to freshers or experienced professionals. Everyone who has received an offer from TCS, will be onboarded. The joining dates are decided as per business demand and in some cases, they do get adjusted to meet our business needs. We remain in continuous touch with all candidates in these cases and look forward to them joining our company soon,” TCS said in a statement.
