Boeing recorded an 18% year-on-year growth in revenue to $19.496 billion in the first quarter of the financial year 2025. On Tuesday, the shares of the American aircraft maker surged over 7%. The American aircraft maker reported a significant improvement in net loss of $31 million in Q1 from a loss of $355 million a year earlier, driven mainly by increased operational efficiency and higher delivery of commercial aircraft.

The deliveries of commercial airplanes increased nearly 57%, from 83 in Q1 FY24 to 130 in the same period of FY25. The company reported an operating cash outflow of $1.6 billion and a free cash outflow of $2.3 billion. Boeing’s cash burn declined from $4 billion in Q1 FY24 to $2.3 billion in Q1 FY25. The results reflected the impact of global tariffs only as of March 31.

Commenting on the financial performance of the company, president and CEO Kelly Ortberg said that the company is making a gradual recovery and is on the path to generate cash in the second half of FY25.

“Our company is moving in the right direction as we start to see improved operational performance across our businesses from our ongoing focus on safety and quality. We continue to execute our plan, are seeing early positive results and remain committed to making the fundamental changes needed to fully recover the company’s performance while navigating the current environment,” Ortberg said in a statement.

The production of the Boeing 737 increased in the first quarter and is projected to reach 38 per month in FY25. CEO Ortberg said the aircraft maker is gearing up to seek the federal aviation administration’s (FAA) approval to increase manufacturing of its 737 Max jets to 42 a month this year.

“The 737 program gradually increased production in the quarter and maintains plans to reach 38 per month this year,” the aircraft maker said in a statement.
