OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Go in India at ₹399 per month, making advanced AI features more affordable
The plan includes GPT-5 access, higher usage limits, more image generations, file uploads, and double the memory of free accounts
Positioned as a budget-friendly tier, it excludes premium tools like Sora and connectors, and supports local payments via UPI and credit cards
With an aim to make AI tools more affordable for Indian users, OpenAI has launched a new subscription model called ‘ChatGPT Go’ in India for just ₹399 per month. The plan will give various benefits such as increased usage limits, image generation, file uploads, and extended memory to users.
Before expanding it to other countries, Nick Turley, vice president and head of ChatGPT has rolled out this plan in India first due to their concerns over affordability and local payment option. Notably, the new subscription is priced at just a fraction of what the Plus plan costs.
What Does Go Plan Offer?
The Go plan provides all features available in the free tier along with extended access to GPT-5, OpenAI’s most advanced model. It enhances everyday use with higher message limits, extra image generations, more file uploads, and expanded data analysis options through Python.
In addition, it will also provide double the memory of free accounts, which enables longer conversations and improved context retention. The plan is positioned as a flexible yet affordable alternative. It caters to users who want more power without playing for premium features.
On the other hand, the Plus plan continues to offer legacy models like GPT-4o along with advanced tools such as deep research, connects, and Sora video creation at just ₹1,999 per month. And the Go plan keeps the focus on essential capabilities at a lower price point.
How to Get Go Plan Access?
The plan will be rolled out in phases across India. Users can simply log into their ChatGPT account, click on the profile icon, and then move ahead with the option ‘Upgrade Plan’. If eligible, the option to select ‘Try Go’ will appear for subscription.
Once subscribed, Go features will be accessible across multiple platforms, including the ChatGPT mobile apps and via WhatsApp at 1-800-ChatGPT. It’s pertinent to note that API usage is not part of this plan and will continue to be charged separately.
What Is Go Plan’s Local Payment Mode?
OpenAI has added local payment option for the Go tier. Under this, the platform will allow users in India to pay me rupees via UPI or credit cards. The plan follows the company’s earlier shift to INR-based billing for subscriptions in India. Subscriptions are billed on monthly basis, and can be canceled anytime.
The rollout of Go plan comes after OpenAI adjusted its India pricing. Plus now costs ₹1,999 per month, while Pro is set at ₹19,900. The new model is designed as a low-cost entry point for users seeking broader access to AI tools without paying for the premium tiers.
Unlike Plus or Pro, Go does not include connectors, legacy models, or Sora. It emphasises extended access to GPT-5 and multimodal features at a more affordable rate. OpenAI also noted that feedback from Indian users will shape the future availability of Go in other regions
