India is set to become the global manufacturing base of Maruti Suzuki's first  global battery electric vehicle, while contributing towards the vision of 'Make in India'. The automobile firm launched its first electric four wheeler, E-vitara on Friday at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo, 2025.

During the launch of their latest model, that represents their commitment towards expanding electric mobility, the Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd said that in the next few months the production of E-vitara will start in the company's Gujarat plant. "Following that, we will expand to more than 100 countries, including Europe and Japan," he added.

Additionally, to encourage the e-mobility ecosystem in India, the firm has come up with an initiative called 'E for Me', which advocates that electric mobility is not an option but a movement. To support that, the initiative will support the building of smart home chargers along with installation support ensuring convenience for our customers. Secondly, the initiative will also leverage the country’s bus network to provide fast charging support to the customers in top 100 cities in the first phase and then expand further.

“The idea is that within every 5 to 10 km in these cities, a customer finds a charging point by Maruti Suzuki. To further ensure peace of mind for our EV customers, we are preparing over 1,500 EV-enabled service workshops covering over 1,000 cities,” the CEO said. He added that these workshops will have specially trained manpower and special equipment to provide all EV-related support including charging.

Most importantly, the company will introduce a dedicated mobile app to simplify EV charging journey of their customers. This app will help locate nearby charging stations, get information on real-time availability of slots, charge their vehicle and make payments. Along with that, the company will also provide roadside assistance all over India including situations where battery runs out.
