Every purchase you want to make is now just a click away. Be it clothes, grocery or services, the internet today has a marketplace for all of them. And people are visiting this marketplace more than ever before. An online shopping behaviour survey was conducted by MasterCard covering 25 markets across the globe between October and December 2014 in which respondents aged between 18 and 64 were questioned about their online shopping habits.
According to the survey, online shopping in India, which saw a significant jump between 2012 and 2013, has remained stable this year. However, as a main reason to access the internet, online shopping declined from 23.2% last year to 17% in 2014. Among those surveyed in India, people between the age of 25 and 44 tend to be more active when it comes to making purchases online. Websites that offer a larger variety of products seem to be more popular among shoppers, where Flipkart — visited by 73% of respondents — is visited most often for shopping, followed by Amazon (50.7%) and Snapdeal (41.6%).
Airlines are what they tend to spend the most on followed by home appliances and electronics, travel and clothing. While security of making payments online remains a concern, convenience is what keeps them hooked. And most of them, the survey reveals, buy for themselves while only one-fourth of them shop for others.
