If you want to update your Aadhaar details including your address, name or date of birth, you can easily do it online for free. The central government has recommended that Aadhaar holders update their Aadhaar documents at least once every 10 years. Regular updates ensure the accuracy of the Aadhaar database and improve service delivery by allowing correct Aadhaar-based verification.

To assist with the process, the UIDAI has extended the deadline for free online updates to December 14, 2024, through the ‘myAadhaar’ portal, and after this date, any updates made at Aadhaar centers will be subject to a nominal fee of Rs 50.

If you have recently updated your Aadhaar details, you might want to check the status of your update request. The status of your Aadhaar update can be checked online through the official UIDAI website.

To check if your Aadhaar has been updated successfully, follow the steps given below:

  • Visit the official UIDAI website

  • Go to the “Aadhaar Services” Section and click on “Check Aadhaar Update Status”

  • Enter the Update Request Number (URN) you received via SMS after submitting your Aadhaar update request. You will not be able to track the status of the update without URN.

  • Enter Captcha for verification

  • Click on the “Check Status” button

  • Status of your update request will appear on your screen, whether it has been processed, approved, or if there are any issues with it.

If your Aadhaar details have been updated, you can download the updated Aadhaar using the e-Aadhaar download option from the UIDAI website.

However, not all Aadhaar details can be updated online for free because biometric changes such as fingerprints, iris scans or photographs – must be done in person at an authorised Aadhaar center. These updates are included in the free service and charge a nominal fee. This is especially important for children and those whose biometrics have undergone significant changes.
