Big Idea

Now satisfy your gastronomic cravings even when on a long-distance train with Travelkhana

The name suggests the obvious. Travelkhana ensures that railway passengers have the option of choosing their own meals and then relishing them at their designated station. Founder Pushpinder Singh dipped into his personal savings to power his idea of delivering “customised meals for railway travellers”. Singh mainly relies on word of mouth, advertisements on travel portals and social media to pull in customers, but he also has tie-ups with several travel agencies.

Initially, the delivery failure was as high as 5% with trains stopping for barely 10 minutes on each station but now with a proper system in place, Singh claims the failure rate is well below 1%. Travelkhana has tie-ups with about 200 vendors across 50 railway stations in the north and west and has plans to expand to other regions by pulling in venture capital. Once the rail business stabilises, Singh also intends to extend the convenience to bus passengers.
