The Union Cabinet on Wednesday announced the minimum selling price (MSP) for kharif crops for the 2025-26 marketing season. MSPs will cover 14 kharif crops for the season, amid concerns around above normal monsoon impacting the sowing season.

"Government has increased the MSP of Kharif Crops for Marketing Season 2025-26, to ensure remunerative prices to the growers for their produce. The highest absolute increase in MSP over the previous year has been recommended for nigerseed (Rs.820 per quintal) followed by Ragi (Rs.596 per quintal), Cotton (Rs.589 per quintal) and Sesamum (Rs.579 per quintal)," the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs said in a statement.

MSP for paddy has been increased by 3% to Rs 2,369 per quintal for the upcoming 2025-26 kharif marketing season from July to June. The support price for A-grade varieties has been increased by Rs 69 per quintal to Rs 2,389 as well.

In case of pulses, MSP for tur has been raised by Rs 450 to Rs 8,000 per quintal, while that of urad support price by Rs 400 to Rs 7,800 and moong MSP has been raised by Rs 86 to Rs 8768 per quintal for the season.

The increase in kharif crops support price for 2025-26 is in line with the Union Budget 2018-19 announcement of fixing the MSP at a level of at least 1.5 times the All-India weighted average cost of production.

Interest Subvention Continues

The Cabinet also approved the continuation of the Interest Subvention (IS) component under the Modified Interest Subvention Scheme (MISS) for the financial year 2025-26 along with required fund arrangements. The scheme will continue with the existing 1.5% IS.

It is a Central Sector Scheme aimed at ensuring the availability of short-term credit to farmers at an affordable interest rate through Kisan Credit card (KCC). Under this, the farmers received short-term loans of up to Rs 3 lakh at a subsidised interest rate of 7%, with 1.5% IS provided to eligible lending institutions.
