X owner and tech billionaire Elon Musk stirred intrigue online after changing his profile name to “Gorklon Rust” on Sunday. This name is now speculated to be a blend of several references.
Adding to the playful confusion, Musk tagged the parody account "gork" and posted, "Sup @gork changed my pp (profile picture) to urs wdyt (what do you think)."
Now, social media users believe that 'Gorklon' is likely about Grok, the AI chatbot available on X and powered by Musk's xAI. On the other hand, 'Rust' also could be a nod to the programming language, which is a part of xAI's tech infrastructure.
There is a probability that “Gorklon Rust” is also reference to a meme coin on the Solana blockchain, currently being traded on decentralised platforms such as PumpSwap, Raydium and Meteora.
After Musk changed his name to Gorklon Rust, the prices of GORK shot up almost 100% in 24 hours. Earlier, it traded at Rs 2.62, and it reached is approximately Rs 5.24.
This name change was followed by Musk's recent announcement regarding a significant overhaul to X's recommendation algorithm, with plans to integrate a "lightweight version" of Grok to enhance user experience.
However, this is not the first time Musk has changed his name on X. In February, he replaced his profile name to "Kekius Maximus." He also updated his profile picture to feature the "Pepe the Frog" meme holding a video game joystick. Netizens felt that Kekius Maximus was a mash-up of Pepe the Frog (a popular internet meme) and Maximus Decimus Meridius, the character played by Russell Crowe in Gladiator. Kekius Maximus or KEKIUS was a significant player in the cryptocurrency market which attracted significant attention from investors.
