In a special media briefing, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that India and Pakistan have agreed to a ceasefire with effect from 1700 IST today. It was agreed between the two neighbours to stop all firing and all military actions on land, air and sea.

"DGMO of Pakistan called India's DGMO at 3.35pm. It was agreed between them that both sides will stop all firing and military action on land, air and sea with effect from 5 pm (IST). Instructions given to both sides to give effect to this understanding. The DGMOs will talk again on May 12 at 12 pm," said Foreign Minister Vikram Misri.

To provide further details, the Ministry of External Affairs will hold a media briefing at 6:15 PM IST. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri's announcement followed soon after US President Donald Trump declared that India and Pakistan had agreed to a ceasefire, brokered through US-led mediation efforts.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, US President Donald Trump announced that India and Pakistan have agreed to a “full and immediate ceasefire”.

The news was also confirmed by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar via a post on X, stating: “Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect. Pakistan has always worked towards peace and security in the region, without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

Adding to that, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also posted that he and Vice President JD Vance had held extensive discussions with senior Indian and Pakistani leaders over the past 48 hours, as part of diplomatic efforts to defuse tensions.

The high-level talks involved Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, and the National Security Advisors of both nations—Ajit Doval and Asim Malik.

“I am pleased to confirm that India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and will commence dialogue on a wide range of issues at a neutral venue,” Rubio said in a statement.

He further praised the leadership of both nations: “We commend Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif for demonstrating wisdom and statesmanship in choosing the path of peace.”
