They say you are closest to God when you can feel the essence of your soul, truly realising the meaning of your inner self. So how do we really connect with our inner being? While this may be a personal choice for many of us, there is no denying that the best time to connect with yourself is when you are at peace, away from the drudgery of daily life.
That’s what Necker Island from Virgin Limited Edition Retreats in the British Islands lays out for you. A pristine beauty that lets you relax and breathe deep without a worry in the world!
Owned by billionaire entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson, Necker Island can probably be best described as the precious jewel that is closest to your heart. The island was named after the 17th century Dutch squadron commander Jonathan de Neckere, and remained uninhabited until late 20th century.
Exclusively yours
Surrounded by turquoise waters, coral reefs and fringed with beautiful white sandy beaches, the island can be hired exclusively for groups of up to 40 people;
in case you’re not looking to hire it exclusively, you can still enjoy the Necker experience by taking a room as a couple, individual or family for a seven-night stay during selected weeks throughout the year — which are called the ‘Celebration Weeks’. The property includes 11 bedrooms in the Great House and four individual Bali Houses dotted around the island. There is also a bunkroom in the Great House that sleeps up to six children.
Guests are encouraged to treat Necker like their home; they are welcome to help themselves with anything they want, any time, all over the island. From relaxed lunches at Turtle Beach to romantic dinners on the Great House roof terrace and Necker’s famous floating sushi bar on the beach pool, being 'spoilt for choice' would probably be an understatement.
Getting active
If you are not content with lazing by the poolside, discover Necker’s 74 acres on an island walk, play tennis as a flock of flamingos fly by, or find your inner zen during a pilates class. Go for kite surfing, waterskiing and wakeboarding, sailing or paddleboarding. And if you want something more exciting, you can always choose snorkelling and scuba diving. At the same time, you can be up close and personal with an array of wildlife. With lemurs, flamingos, scarlet ibis, giant tortoises, iguanas and much more, rekindle your love for animals.
