Whether it’s their own ingenuity or whether they are guided by their wealth managers, India’s super rich have always been ahead of the curve in spotting investment opportunities across asset classes. While old money has always fancied real estate, it seems like the inheritors and new-generation entrepreneurs are taking a fancy to equities over real estate big time. An adventurous few are venturing into the alternative space by investing in start-ups. The mediocre track record of PE funds notwithstanding, it seems like the rich just can’t resist the lure of playing a gamble in the hope of hitting pay dirt.
