State-owned Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) has inaugurated a 71 MW solar power plant in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, strengthening its renewable energy portfolio as part of its transition to cleaner energy.
The plant has an installed capacity of 71 MWp (DC) / 52 MW (AC) and is expected to generate about 103.61 million units of green electricity annually, the firm said in a statement.
The plant is estimated to reduce carbon emissions by 75,150 tonnes per year, equivalent to planting nearly 1.25 crore trees.

Spread across 210 acres, the facility has been developed with 1.29 lakh solar modules, 1,324 metric tonnes of structural steel and around 294 kilometres of cabling. It is connected to the grid through a 132 kV transmission line.
The green power generated will be supplied to BPCL’s refineries in Mumbai, Bina and Kochi, supporting cleaner operations and lowering carbon intensity.
BPCL operates three oil refineries with a combined capacity of about 35.3 million tonnes and over 23,500 fuel stations, more than 6,200 LPG distributorships and 79 aviation service stations.
The company has set a target to become a Net Zero Energy Company by 2040 for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, and operates EV charging facilities at more than 6,500 fuel stations nationwide.
