Apple is projected to generate $11bn in revenue from iPhone sales this year, up from $9bn last year, according to industry experts cited by Mint.
The surge is expected to be driven by the newly launched iPhone 16e, an upgrade to Apple's economic models like the iPhone Se and iPhone 14. Priced Rs 20,000 lower than the iPhone 16, the 16e aims to capture emerging markets like India.
According to analysts at market research firm International Data Corp. (IDC), Apple sold around 12 million units of iPhone in India last year. This number is significantly lower than Vivo and Samsung, but the iPhone’s selling price is nearly thrice than the industry average. This makes Apple the highest-earning smartphone brand in India.
The new iPhone 16e’s price and features will allow it to cater to the average ticket customer base of Vivo and Samsung. As per industry experts, Apple is expected to sell around 15 million units of iPhone this year, thereby boosting revenue.

The iPhone 16e features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, an aerospace-grade aluminum frame, and a glass back. It comes in classic black and white color options. Powered by the latest A18 chip, the device ensures smooth performance. It also debuts Apple's in-house C1 modem, improving connectivity and reducing reliance on third-party suppliers.
Apple Intelligence is the standout feature, serving as Apple's response to AI solutions like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini. Apple Intelligence includes AI-driven features such as advanced writing tools and visual intelligence. Additional features include an Action Button, Face ID, and a USB-C port.
In India, the iPhone 16e is priced at Rs 59,900 for the 128GB model, Rs 69,900 for 256GB, and Rs 89,900 for 512 GB. Pre-orders began on February 21, with official sales starting on February 28. The iPhone 16e is expected to boost Apple’s market share in India by attracting new buyers and upgraders.
Apple is also manufacturing the iPhone 16e in India, aligning with the "Make in India" initiative. Local production may lower costs and improve supply chain efficiency, further strengthening Apple's presence in the Indian market.
