Vice-president & managing director of Intuit India talks about his passion for running and more

Vishal Koul

I enjoy reading business and spiritual books. One of my all-time favourite books is Mahatma Gandhi’s autobiography, The Story of My Experiments With Truth. Other books that I am particularly fond of are Good to Great by James Collins and The Discipline of Getting Things Done by Larry Bossidy and Ram Charan.

I am passionate about running, either with a group or on my own. When in a group we try to motivate each other and push ourselves and it’s all about teamwork. When I run on my own, it is just the road and I. I love that feeling!

I enjoy a combination of rock and traditional music. My favourite rock band is U2. I also admire Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan for his contribution to Sufi music. Both U2 and Nusrat have strong messages in their music.

Our favourite family destination is Laguna Beach area in California where we lived for a couple of years. The top three favourite destinations in Europe are Venice, Paris and London (especially Hyde park for runners) as these cities provide a unique experience of history and modern times. Back in India, there is no place like Kashmir, paradise on earth!

One of my favourite restaurants is in Chicago called Vermilion, which serves a unique melding of contemporary Indian and Latin American cuisine. Additionally, I enjoy Italian cuisine.
