Blinkit is steadily closing the gap with Zomato’s food-delivery app in weekly active users, signaling a notable shift in India’s online consumer preferences, a CLSA analysis showed as reported by Moneycontrol.

The analysis, dated May 26, 2025, reports Blinkit with 30.1 million weekly active users, just below Zomato’s 30.7 million and well ahead of Swiggy’s combined app user base.

According to CLSA’s analysis of Sensor Tower data, Blinkit, already the leader in quick commerce—has further solidified its dominance in 2025. The gap between Blinkit and its closest competitor grew from 1.79 million weekly active users in early January to 7.7 million by late May, marking its widest lead to date.

Quick commerce is experiencing rapid growth, fuelled by increasing consumer demand and aggressive expansion by players like Zepto and Swiggy’s Instamart. What started as a convenience-driven experiment is fast becoming the preferred choice for groceries, snacks, personal care and even fashion in some regions.

Quick Commerce Race

Swiggy, Zomato’s long-standing rival in food delivery, is trailing in the quick-commerce race. Swiggy’s all-in-one super app records 24.7 million weekly active users, significantly behind both Blinkit and Zomato. However, its standalone Instamart app, launched in January 2025, is gaining momentum, reaching 8.2 million weekly users.

Blinkit has gained 9.3 million subscribers year-to-date in 2025, leading the quick commerce sector, with Swiggy’s Instamart close behind at 8.2 million new users, making them the top two performers. Zepto, the second-largest standalone quick-commerce app, added 3.4 million users in the same period, while JioMart gained 3 million.

Suresh Narayanan, Nestlé India’s managing director, recently noted that e-commerce constitutes about 8 % of the company’s total turnover, with quick commerce accounting for 60 % of its online sales.

Narayanan emphasised that quick commerce has emerged as a key growth driver, fuelled by consumer demand for faster delivery times.

According to Moneycontrol, Blinkit, Zepto and Instamart collectively processed 4.15 – 4.45 million daily orders in March 2025, more than doubling the previous year’s volumes. Blinkit led with 1.65 – 1.75 million daily orders, followed by Zepto with 1.45 – 1.55 million and Instamart with 1.05 – 1.15 million.
