As the winning team gained attention, the owner of team Kavya, who was seen cheering for the team throughout the match, also made headlines. 

Kavya Maran’s Education, Role, Net Worth 

Maran graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Commerce from Stella Maris College, Chennai, followed by an MBA from the prestigious Warwick Business School. After finishing higher education, the 33-year-old businesswoman joined the family business.

The 33-year-old daughter of Kalanithi Maran, the chairman and founder of the Sun Group, has become a popular name in the Indian sports business, particularly after she took charge of the Sun Group’s IPL team in 2018. She heads the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the South Africa T20 League.

But her role isn’t just limited to the sports business of the Indian media conglomerate, the Sun Group. She is the executive director of Sun TV Network Limited. In 2024, she was awarded the Devi Awards for her leadership role.

According to multiple media reports, she has a net worth of Rs 400 crore amassed mainly from her various top-level executive roles. 

Kavya Maran’s Influential Lineage 

Besides being the only heir of the Sun Group chairman Kalanithi Maran, who has a net worth of Rs 25,000 crore, according to Forbes, she comes from a family of politically influential figures. Her mother, Kavery Maran, is the CEO of Solar TV Community. The 33-year-old Maran is the granddaughter of Indian politician, Murasoli Maran, who was associated with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). She is the niece of Dayanidhi Maran, a four-time member of parliament from Chennai Central. Her family shares ties with former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.
