The survey, which gathered over 22,000 responses from 298 districts across the country, found that a significant 87% of respondents would not pay any extra fees for drone delivery services for e-commerce, food, or medicine orders
Amid the quick commerce and e-commerce boom happening in India, another thing that has been gaining some momentum has been drone based delivery. However, only 6 per cent consumers are willing to pay a delivery charge for delivery of items via drones. This is as per a survey released by community platform LocalCircles.
The survey was conducted with over 22,000 responses from people based out of 298 districts of India. On being asked what would one be willing to pay for a drone-based delivery of ecommerce, food or medicine order, around 87 per cent of the consumers said that they wouldn’t pay anything extra. However, these respondents see good potential in drone services.
And, only 3 per cent indicated Rs 25-500, and another 3 per cent said Rs 500-1000 for drone delivery charges. The remaining 7 per cent gave no clear response, opting for “can’t say” on the question. Hence, the survey indicates that if the cost of drone delivery is not imposed on the consumers, they would be willing to use the services.
The 15-minute delivery took centre stage in the India market, with the q-commerce giants Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, and Zepto introducing new product categories to serve evolving consumer demands. From groceries and electronic gadgets to beauty products and festive gift hampers, these platforms expanded their offerings to cater to a broader range of consumers who prefer convenience.
While the combined revenue of the quick commerce trio surpassed $1 billion, the industry witnessed an impressive 280 per cent growth over the past two years. Some players are delivery products in 15-20 minutes, while others have won the race by fulfilling orders in 8-10 minutes. This mimics the change in the purchase behaviour of Indian consumers.
A recent survey stated that 75 per cent of online grocery buyers saw a jump in unplanned purchase in the last six months, while 53 per cent of buyers place more than five orders monthly on quick commerce platforms. It added that nearly 67 per cent of buyers have an average order value of more than Rs 400 on the instant delivery apps.
Beyond these major players, a wave of start-ups like Slikk, Swish and ecommerce platforms including Amazon, Flipkart and Myntra have also entered the competitive quick commerce game to replicate the success of the incumbents.
