Senior NCP (SP) leader Jayant Patil appealed to Maharashtra government to immediately withdraw VAT and surcharge on petrol and diesel.
Patil said fuel prices were hiked four times in 10 days; Mumbai petrol at ₹111.12/litre and diesel at ₹96.86/litre burdening common people.
He demanded abolition of 25% VAT and ₹10.12/litre surcharge on petrol, 24% VAT and ₹3/litre on diesel, claiming prices could drop to ₹70–80/litre.
