Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian addressed the American netizens, urging them to question war motives, in his “open letter” released through a post in X.
He asked the American public to “look beyond political rhetoric” and reconsider their perception of Iran. He further added that Iran does not hold any hostility toward American, while challenging the way Tehran is often depicted in global narratives.
He mentioned that Iran does not pose a security threat, calling such allegations inconsistent with the country’s historic reality. Calling Iran as one of the world’s oldest continuous civilisations, he shared that the country has not initiated aggressive attack or expansion in modern times but has acted in self-defence when attacked.
In addition, he emphasised that Iran harbours “no enmity” toward other nations, including people in the United States, Europe and neighbouring countries, stressing that Iranians distinguish between governments and their people. At the same time, he described recent US actions as “aggression” targeting civilians and infrastructure, warning such moves “generate instability” and “plant seeds of resentment that will endure for years.”
Pezeshkian defended Iran’s actions as “a measured response grounded in legitimate self-defence” and said the decision to withdraw from the nuclear deal and escalate tensions were “destructive choices made by the US government.”
Meanwhile, the Iranian president also questioned Israel’s role, labelling the United States as “a proxy for Israel” and claiming it “manufactures an Iranian threat” while seeking to “fight Iran to the last American soldier and taxpayer dollar”. He further asked whether “America First is truly among the priorities of the US government.
Pezeshkian also wrote that the choice between confrontation and engagement is both real and consequential. He warned that continued conflict is “more costly and futile than ever before,” while emphasising that Iran has “outlasted many aggressors” throughout its history.
The 2026 Iran conflict started on February 28 with big US-Israeli attacks on Iranian military and nuclear sites. This led to missile and drone attacks across the region in response.
Encyclopaedia Britannica says that the conflict has stopped oil from flowing, made the region less stable, and made tensions around the world worse. This has affected the stories and messages coming from both Tehran and Washington.
