Over 3.4 million fake mobile connections have been spiked: Jyotiraditya Scindia

In a significant move against digital fraud, the government in collaboration with private sector players  has disconnected 3.4 million fake mobile connections across the country, Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced at the theme launch event of the India Mobile Congress (IMC) on Monday.

“Our responsibilities are not limited to service delivery. Our private sector is stepping up launching caller identification tools, protecting citizens from spam and fraud. One such initiative has disconnected over 3.4 million fake mobile connections. This is not just governance, it's nation-building,” said Scindia. 

The theme of 9th edition of the India Mobile Congress (IMC) was launched on Monday as ‘Innovate to Transform’ by the Union Minister for Communications and IT. 

“In this environment, the theme ‘Innovate to Transform’ reflects the very ethos of our development rooted in the Prime Minister’s vision for Viksit Bharat 2047. It is powered by Atmanirbharta (self-reliance), driven by entrepreneurs, and backed by inclusive innovation,” said Scindia.

Indian Mobile Congress is an annual conference forum that witnesses the confluence of industry leaders , government, academia, and other ecosystem players to discuss, deliberate, demonstrate, and display the latest trends in the realm of Telecom, Media, and Technology (TMT)and ICT. 

This year, the India Mobile Congress (IMC) will be held from October 8 to 11, 2025, in New Delhi. 

The Minister of Communications highlighted that last year’s combined IMC 2024 and WTSA hosted for the first time in Asia  saw record participation, with delegates from 163 countries, ministry representatives from 150 nations, and over 3,500 attendees.

Scindia also mentioned that telecom networks today reach 99% of India’s districts and over 82% of the population and called this capability is a testament to what we as a nation have built together.

“We are now among only four countries globally with indigenous 4G/5G stack capability. The Prime Minister envisioned that BSNL’s transition from 3G to 4G must be driven by indigenous technology. And we did what was never done before bringing together a public-sector operator (BSNL), a private-sector OEM, and an Indian system integrator (TCS), to deliver the first domestic stack in just 22 months,” he added. 

Along with this, Scindia also launched ‘Sanchar Mitra’ initiative nationwide which will be piloted across 219 institutions. 

“Showcasing India’s leadership in democracy, digitalisation, and delivery. Encouraged by the success of this initiative, we are now taking this nationwide effort to empower our youth to educate, inform, and protect every single digital citizen,” said Scindia.
