Loom's Vinay Hiremath Pens Heartfelt Note on 'How's Life After Selling Start-Up for $975 Million'

Vinay Hiremath, the Indian-origin co-founder of Loom, recently penned a blog opening up about the insecurities he has experienced since achieving immense wealth. He along with the other co-founders of Loom had sold his start-up to Australian software company, Atlassian for $975 million in 2023.

In his note, he talked about failing to find the motivation to work again, giving up the $60 million pay package, trying to be 'Elon Musk Phase', breaking up with his girlfriend, climbing mountains, working for DOGE, studying Physics, and more.

He started by sharing about his lack of motivation and how he doesn't have the same base desires driving him to make money or gain status as he had before he became rich. “After selling my company, I find myself in the un-relatable position of never having to work again. Everything feels like a side quest, but not in an inspiring way.” Vinay wrote.

Be Like Elon Musk

Talking about his ‘trying to be Elon phase’, he said that he met over 70 investors and founders in robotics. He wrote, “I had been learning about robotics for quite some time and was positive I wanted to throw myself into giving computers arms and legs. I had come up with all the taglines to delude myself into thinking this was my “life’s calling”. Everything had been “leading to this exact point”.

At the end of two weeks, he realized that he didn’t want to start a Robotics company and that he was doing all of this just because he actually wanted to look like Elon. The Indian entrepreneur cringed at his own actions saying that It hurts to even type this out.

Apology to Girlfriend

After deciding not to build a Robotics company, he found himself in a rudder with no sense of direction. “We started getting into regular arguments, and I knew it wasn’t on her. It was me.”, he wrote about his ex-girlfriend.

He apologised to his ex-girlfriend and blamed his insecurities for their breakup after two years of unconditional love. “If my ex is reading this, thank you for everything. I am sorry I couldn’t be what you needed me to be,” he wrote.
