India has developed its first indigenous water-soluble fertiliser technology after seven years of research.
The technology, backed by the Ministry of Mines, uses Indian raw materials and Indian-designed plants.
It aims to reduce India’s heavy dependence on Chinese specialty fertiliser imports, currently 95% of supply.
Only 5% of NPK formulations are produced domestically; the rest comes directly or indirectly from China.
Rajiv Chakraborty, SFIA President, led the R&D initiative and risked his business to achieve the breakthrough.
