Captain Rohit Sharma led Indian cricket team won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 by claiming a four wicket victory against New Zealand. Ravindra Jadeja hit the winning runs as India chased down their target of 252 with an over to spare. Rohit Sharma was named Player of the Match. India has won a Champions trophy title after 12 years.
The ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 has returned after being stalled for eight years. It is also the first global cricket tournament to be hosted in Pakistan since 1996. As per the International Cricket Council (ICC), the winner of the eight-team tournament that was set to be announced on 9 March will earn $2.24mn.
The runner-up team will receive $1.12mn, while the semi-final losing team will get $560,000. The total prize pot of the tournament is $6.9mn, a 53% increase from the 2017 edition. Teams in fifth or sixth position will earn $350,000 each, while those at the bottom two will get $140,000 each.
For each match at the group stage, the winning team earns more than $34,000, apart from the $125,000 that each participating team is set to get for competing in the tournament.
Ranji Trophy winning team, Vidarbha will take home Rs 5cr as the winning amount. This comes after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a prize money hike for all domestic tournaments in April 2023.
Vidarbha’s winning amount is just Rs 20 lakh less than the ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025 semi-finalists prize amount. The losing semi-finalists of the tournament will receive $560,000 each, which translates roughly to Rs 5.2 crore. On the other hand, Kerala will receive INR 3 crore as prize money for finishing as the runner-up in the Ranji Trophy.
India will face Australia in the first semi-final of the Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai on Tuesday after they beat New Zealand by 44 runs in the final group-stage match at the same venue on Sunday. New Zealand, on the other hand, will travel to Lahore to take on South Africa in the second semi-final on Wednesday.
The last time India defeated Australia in an ICC event's knockout stage was in the quarterfinal of the 2011 World Cup. India lost to Australia in the 2023 World Test Championship final after losing to them in the 2015 ODI World Cup semifinals and the 2023 ODI World Cup final.
