Kaizad Bharucha has emerged as the leading internal candidate to replace Jagdishan and could be among two names submitted by HDFC Bank to the RBI for consideration.
The lender is also evaluating an external candidate, as RBI rules require banks to submit multiple names for the CEO appointment, which is subject to the central bank’s approval.
The succession comes after months of governance and market pressure, including chairman Atanu Chakraborty’s resignation, scrutiny over large-deposit pricing and a 27% decline in HDFC Bank shares this year.
