Currently, the state produces 35 MW of solar power.

TREDA's Director General (in charge), Debabrata Sukladas, said that solar power generation systems will be installed in all the 58 Block Development Offices and 275 offices of village committees.

"We have set a target of generating 11 MW of solar power during 2026-27. Work to achieve this target is in full swing," he told PTI.

About installing solar power generation systems in government offices, Sukladas said, "The tender process for this project is in the final stage. We expect to float the tender at the earliest.

He highlighted that all district magistrate offices have already received solar power panels.

Sukladas said the state has 1,919 government buildings and 90 of them already have solar power systems; the remainder will be covered in a phased manner.

He stated the government is focusing on solar power instead of conventional power produced by gas-based power plants in the northeastern state.

"Solar power will emerge beneficial in hilly areas where traditional power supply is not financially viable because of hostile geographical conditions and less population density", he added.
