“Always make provisions for contingencies”

Effective planning: The most important aspect of any project management is planning. Unless you don’t plan how you want to manage a project, it will not work. You have to plan in terms of how you are going to work around the project and what you are going to do to make it successful.

Design with efficiency: You have to ensure that all parties involved approve of the design of the project. You also need to decide on the best design that will satisfy the end customer and is cost effective.

Follow a timeline: Close monitoring is crucial for any project. You have to check if the progress is fructifying as per plan, at every stage. For instance, you have to monitor the timeline; the cost effectiveness; and the quality of the project.

Make provision for contingencies: Most of the time people make plans, but don’t provide for contingencies — in terms of time escalation, cost escalation, closures of projects, non supply of materials, and so on. Any of these issues could set you back. So, you need to have a plan B or C in place.

Keep correcting yourself: During the execution period, no project pans exactly how you had planned or what you had designed. The client may have changed a requirement or the prices of certain materials may have risen. You have to be ready to take into account all the variations, make the corrections and still meet the timeline.
