Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Foxconn is considering establishing a new factory at India’s ESR Industrial Park in Oragadam, Tamil Nadu, to manufacture iPhone enclosures, Economic Times reported.

This would mark the Taiwanese contract manufacturer’s first venture into producing enclosures in India, a task previously handled exclusively by Tata Electronics. Until now, Foxconn has focused on iPhone assembly at its Sriperumbudur facility.

“Foxconn plans to start making enclosures in Tamil Nadu as they deepen their footprint in the country. Construction has begun for their enclosures unit at the industrial park. This will be a separate unit close to their upcoming display‑module assembly plant, which is in advanced stages in the same industrial park,” a source told the publication.

This follows an announcement by its emerging rival Tata Electronics, which plans to expand iPhone‑enclosure manufacturing at its Hosur facility in Tamil Nadu, targeting production of 100,000 units.

Meanwhile, Foxconn aims to increase its iPhone manufacturing in India, planning to produce 25–30 million iPhones from its operations this year—more than doubling the capacity achieved the previous year.

Foxconn is also rapidly expanding its manufacturing capacity across India. In 2023, Foxconn acquired 300 acres of land near Bengaluru airport, with a budget of ₹ 25,000 crore allocated for project development.

Foxconn India iPhone Exports

Foxconn exported nearly all of its iPhones from India to the US between March and May 2025, surpassing the 2024 average of 50 % and reflecting Apple’s strategy to avoid heavy US tariffs on Chinese goods, Reuters reported.

According to the data, Apple has redirected its India exports almost entirely to the US market, whereas previously devices were supplied to the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom.

Foxconn exported $ 3.2 billion in iPhones from India between March and May, with an average of 97 % delivered to the US, compared to a 2024 average of 50.3 %, according to customs data reviewed by Reuters.

In May 2025 Foxconn’s India facilities exported approximately $ 1 billion worth of iPhones to the US, the second‑highest monthly total on record, following a peak of $ 1.3 billion in March. Foxconn has shipped $ 4.4 billion in iPhones to the US in the first five months of 2025, exceeding its total for the entire year of 2024 ($ 3.7 billion).

This shift aligns with Apple’s efforts to bypass high US tariffs on Chinese goods. Previously, Indian‑made iPhones were distributed to markets including the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom, but now they are almost exclusively directed to the US.
