Ratan Tata’s will is back in the limelight months after he passed away, as a new name to claim inheritance from his wealth surfaces. Mohini Mohan Dutta, the man whose association with late Ratan Tata spans nearly six decades, is reportedly set to receive Rs 500 crore as per some estimates from the late business tycoon’s will, according to the Economic Times.

According to the will, Dutta is reportedly entitled to around one-third of Ratan Tata’s residual estate, which comprises bank deposits worth Rs 350 crore and proceeds from auctioning personal belongings like watches. However, Dutta is expecting an inheritance worth Rs 650 crore, a claim that doesn’t match Ratan Tata’s will, the Economic Times reported, citing sources.

How Jamshedpur Shaped Tata, Dutta’s Bond

Dutta’s connection with late business tycoon Ratan Tata goes back to the days when the latter spent years in Jamshedpur in the early phase of his career. Dutta owned a travel agency Stallion, which was later merged in 2013 with Tata Group’s hospitality business, Taj Services. He then went on to serve as the director of TC Travel Services.

“We first met in Jamshedpur at the dealers’ hostel when Ratan Tata was 24. He helped me out and really built me up,” Dutta had told the media at Ratan Tata’s funeral in October last year.

But Dutta’s association with the Tata Group’s businesses isn’t restricted to him alone. His daughter reportedly worked with Tata Trusts for years before kickstarting her career at Taj Hotels.

According to multiple media reports, apart from close family and friends, Dutta too was one of the guests at Ratan Tata’s birthday celebrations held in December last year at NCPA in Mumbai.

Apart from Dutta, the 86-year-old industrialist’s Rs 10,000 crore will has left assets for Shantanu Naidu and brother Jimmy Tata, half-sisters Shireen and Deanna Jejeebhoy, house helps and others. Additionally, he mentioned ‘unlimited care’ to be given to his pet dog Tito, ToI reported.
