Sunjay Kapur, Chairman of auto parts giant Sona Comstar, tragically passed away on June 12, 2025, in London after a heart attack during a polo match. His death has sparked uncertainty over the company’s future and how his ₹10,300 crore estate will be inherited by his children.
Sunjay Kapur, who was married to Karisma Kapoor earlier, had three children with her: Samaira (20) and Kiaan (14), apart from Azarias (6) with wife Priya Sachdev. His earlier marriage to Nandita Mahtani ended in 2000. Eyes are now on whether his children may join Sona Comstar.
According to India.com, Sunjay Kapur’s sisters—Mandira Kapur and Preeti Kapur Rao—may take on leadership roles at Sona Comstar following his sudden death. The family is expected to play a key part in managing both the business and estate transition.
Sunjay Kapur took over the reins of Sona Comstar in 2015 after the death of his father, industrialist Dr Surinder Kapur. Under his leadership, the company grew to a market cap of over ₹31,000 crore (approx $4 billion).
At the time of his death, Sunjay net worth was estimated at ₹10,300 crore. Forbes reports his wealth peaked at ₹13,000 crore in 2022 and 2024. His wife, Priya Sachdev, is expected to manage the estate, while his two children with Karisma Kapoor may also inherit part of his assets.
Kapur had also set up financial support for his children with Karisma Kapoor—Samaira and Kiaan. Reports say he gifted them ₹14 crore in bonds and arranged a monthly income of ₹10 lakh each, though full inheritance details remain unconfirmed.
As per a Supreme Court order during their 2016 divorce, Karisma Kapoor also received full custody of her children with Sunjay Kapur. Additionally, Sunjay's father’s house in Mumbai was transferred to her name as part of the settlement.
