The wait will be a bit longer but once ready, the Ganga Bridge will emerge as the country’s largest rail-road bridge. The 4.56 km-long bridge will connect Patna to Sonepur in Bihar and is expected to be ready by September 2014. In 2002, the project was conceived as a rail bridge but in 2006 it was decided to convert the same into a rail-road bridge. To be supported by 38 columns, the bridge — estimated to cost ₹2,900 crore — is Bihar’s first public private partnership project modelled on the build, operate and transfer platform.
