It was a gamer’s delight this weekend in Mumbai. Game addicts in the city got to play the FIFA 18, WWE 2K18, Gran Turismo Sport, Injustice 2 and also got their hands on the to-be-released popular series Far Cry 5, much ahead of its February 2018 release. The Indian Games Expo, which is in its third year, also showcased a new homemade game, Alter Army, developed by two teenage boys from Jaipur. Though nascent, Unity Technologies, the US game developer, and Nasscom believe that three factors are driving gaming in the country: mass-market adoption, the beginnings of habit formation and acceptance of gaming as a mainstream forum of entertainment. Not surprising then that the domestic gaming market is expected to reach $1.1 billion by 2020. The good part of the deal is the changing attitude of Indian gamers — 5% are paying for their games against just 0.5% a year back.
