The Good Life

Twirl, sniff, drink in style!

If you are a wine connoisseur or someone who appreciates drinking traditions, Moser has the perfect barware to lift up your spirits

For some, hosting a wine-tasting party might just mean getting an exquisite wine, probably pairing it up with an aged Cheddar or Pecorino cheese, and a set of wine glasses.

But for wine connoisseurs, this is just one-third of putting together a wine-tasting party. For them, it starts with having a great wine cellar to store your exquisite bottle of Monastrell red wine, then keeping it in a wide-base decanter to aerate it for not less than 60 minutes, and finally pouring it in handsome crystal stemware. And of course, you can’t miss the good ol’ cheese.

Moser brand has the perfect barware to complement your ‘spirit’. With this company’s products, you get to own the same glassware as Queen Elizabeth or the royal family of Spain. At Rs.65,000, you can buy Optic Decanter, which has a broad base, is 10.7 inches tall and can hold 1,250 ml of wine. The crystal glass in different hues creates a playful light effect. “Just look at them and be carried away by its carousel full of movement and life. Let yourself be inspired by a dance with a strong tradition and experience,” says Lukáš Jabůrek, creator of the piece.

All Moser pieces are handcrafted in Czech and made of lead-free crystal. “Moser creates classic and timeless designs, and each of its collection is limited. There are only 50 or 100 pieces in the world and once sold, the designs are never recreated,” says Armaan, senior sales executive of the Moser store in DLF Emporio Mall, Delhi.

To orchestrate a Moser barware collection on your table, go for its stemware under its Optic series, which consists of goblets, and wine, martini and champagne glasses. A set of goblet and a decanter from this collection can cost you over Rs.200,000.

Moser also offers a gold-enameled drinking set, as a part of its Maharani collection, named after the wife of Maharajah of Travancore, who had commissioned the creation. Hand-gilded with 24 karat gold, a decanter from this collection can cost as much as Rs.100,000.

According to Madeline Puckette, co-founder of Wine Folly, a newsletter for wine enthusiasts and aficionados, decanting is essential for wines, especially the old-bottled ones. “It may not look like much, but the increased oxygen exposure to wine greatly improves the taste. It softens the astringent tannins and lets fruit and floral aromas come out,” she explains.

The art of drinking red wine is a forgotten one, believes Armaan. “You can’t simply gulp it without any knowledge of its ingredients or taste. People who come to our store understand this and are thus willing to invest Rs.60,000 or Rs.100,000 on barware,” he notes.

However, if you’re new to this art and still figuring out whether you’re the twirl-your-wine kind or emptying-your-glass one, you should go for the simplistic Oeno Decanter. Priced at Rs.17,500, the decanter is flask-shaped — round base and a long, thin neck. Made of lead-free crystal, the decanter is 10 inches tall and has a capacity of 2,000 ml.
