This Indian Unicorn’s AI Device Reduces Road Accidents by 50%

This smart device slashes accidents and reshapes driver behavior at scale, say companies.

India’s roads remain some of the deadliest in the world, with over 400 fatalities every day equivalent to more than two air crashes daily. But Bengaluru-based AI mobility firm Netradyne, in partnership with Eminent, says it has found a way to bend this grim curve: an AI-powered dashcam system that monitors both driver and road behavior in real time.

In a recent joint presentation, the two companies highlighted how this intelligent device is not just cutting accident rates but also transforming driver behavior at scale. According to them, some fleets have seen up to a 50% drop in accidents since deploying the system.

“Most accidents today are caused by human error e.g. speeding, distraction, fatigue. We lose 400 lives a day on our roads. That’s the crisis we’re trying to solve,” said Durgadutt Nedungadi, Senior Vice President, EMEA and APAC, Netradyne.

Netradyne’s solution comes in the form of a palm-sized device mounted on the vehicle’s windshield, housing two cameras: one outward-facing to capture road activity and another facing the driver. Equipped with GPS, a gyrometer, 4G connectivity, and computing capabilities, the device uses AI and machine learning to detect infractions in real time.

Eminent, which operates over 1,600 vehicles across India, has been among the early adopters of the technology. “Employee safety, especially for women commuting during night hours, has become a major concern for our clients,” said Praveen, Business Manager at Eminent. “Netradyne’s system allows us to monitor live dashboards, flag safety violations instantly, and even share real-time updates with corporate clients.”

“With 450,000 vehicles now using our tech worldwide, we’ve built what we call the ‘safety pyramid’ starting from detecting hard braking and sharp turns, to tracking facial expressions for signs of fatigue,” said Nedungadi. “This isn’t about surveillance, it’s about intervention. It’s about saving lives.”

As of 2025, Netradyne claims to be India’s first unicorn in the AI mobility sector and one of the top patent filers in deep tech, as recognized by NASSCOM. Their R&D continues to be based out of Bengaluru, with manufacturing in Gurgaon an embodiment of the ‘Make in India for the World’ narrative.

With cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Gurgaon being home to thousands of night-shift workers and global delivery centers, the demand for intelligent transport safety systems is only expected to grow.

“Our vision is to create a safety-first culture for mobility,” said Nedungadi. “India doesn’t lack technology, instead it needs the will to implement it at scale. We’re doing our part by building scalable, intelligent solutions made in India, for India and the world.”

Shell India, for instance, has mandated that any tanker without a functioning Netradyne device must halt operations immediately until the issue is resolved.
