Spacetech start-up Astrogate Labs has secured #1.3 million in pre-Series funding led by Piper Angel Fund. The Bengaluru-based firm, in an official statement, said that it will use the capital to further accelerate the development of its laser communication terminals for space and additional use cases in terrestrial and airborne applications, scale operations, and strengthen partnerships with space agencies and defense organisations.

“This funding is a significant milestone in our growth trajectory, and we're excited to have Piper Serica on board. Laser-comm systems are rapidly gaining market traction for their unmatched throughput and efficiency. This capital will help us scale our solutions for additional use-cases in terrestrial mobile and air links," said Astrogate Labs founding team and CEO Nitish Singh.

Nitish Singh, Yogeshwaran J, and Subhajit Chakraborty founded Astrogate Labs with a vision to transform satellite communications. The company has been backed by SpecialeInvest, SatSure & Anicut Capital, who provided early funding to support the development of its innovative technology. The spacetech firm's technology addresses a critical challenge for the growing data downlink demand from smallsat constellations.

“We expect the space economy to develop at a rapid pace. We are delighted to back an amazing team of founders at Astrogate who have spent years developing a highly innovative solution that is being eagerly welcomed by early customers," Abhay Agarwal, Founder, Piper Serica Angel Fund.

"We expect laser-based communication to be a game changer for critical sectors, across the world, that are using space-based solutions. Overall we are quite bullish on the Spacetech space and will be soon investing in three more start-ups by end of April this year," he added.

With over 25,000 small satellites expected to be in orbit by 2030, current radio frequency systems face severe bandwidth limitations and spectrum congestion. Astrogate's communication solutions provide a scalable alternative for high-speed upto 10 Gbps, secure data transmission.

The company has already demonstrated its core capabilities through successful projects with defense organizations, with its indigenously developed laser-comm terminal for secure ship-to-ship communications.
