Flipkart Founder's Start-Up Streak: After Sachin Bansal's Navi, Binny Bansal Launches 'Opptra'

Flipkart co-founder Binny Bansal on Wednesday announced the launch of his new start-up Opptra, that helps consumer brands scale in Asia. It is a tech-driven start-up that builds franchising businesses portfolios, which have expertise in local markets and scale them in the Asian markets across categories such as fashion and lifestyle, home products and electronics.

Through Opptra, Bansal aims to solve the problems brands face on entering new markets by leveraging technology, supply chain expertise and franchising partnerships. This comes after Bansal made a full exit from Flipkart by selling his remaining stake at the company recently.

“Many consumer brands have the potential to scale globally, but navigating new markets is tough. Cultural, infrastructural and regulatory differences make it complex, especially in a rapidly evolving retail landscape. Opptra unlocks Asia for brands by combining deep market expertise, cutting-edge tech and a powerful supply chain. But Asia is just the start, our longer-term vision is to take brands from anywhere to everywhere around the world,” said Bansal.

Driven by e-commerce and shifting consumer behaviour, Asia accounts for approximately 70% of global consumer growth. Opptra is initially focusing on key markets such as India, Southeast Asia and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). The company also plans to expand into sectors like general retail, sports, technology and infant care. While Opptra's current focus is on Asia, its long-term goal is to support brand expansion on a global scale.

Top Roles in Opptra

Binny Bansal will play the founder and chairman role in Opptra. The start-up has roped in senior executives from Amazon, Flipkart and Swiggy.

Opptra's executive team comprises experienced professionals from the retail and e-commerce industries. Ranjit Babu, the CEO of Electronics and General Merchandise, previously held roles at Apple, Amazon India and Nokia. Giridhar Yasa, who leads the company's technical division, has worked at Lendingkart and Flipkart. Anand Raj, responsible for supply chain operations, brings experience from Flipkart and Swiggy.
