Elon Musk Set to Release Grok 3, Calls it ‘Smartest AI on Earth’

Elon Musk, Chief Executive (CEO) of xAI, has announced the release of Grok 3, the start-up’s latest AI chatbot. He claimed Grok 3 to be the ‘smartest AI on Earth’ and revealed that the chatbot will be launched with a live demo on Monday at 8 PM PT (Tuesday 9:30 AM IST).

The world’s richest man announced the release on X, stating that he would be offline until the launch as he would be honing the product with his team.

While speaking at the World Government Summit in Dubai earlier this week, Musk stated that Grok 3 is "scary smart,” claiming that it will outperform all existing AI models. Musk also noted that the algorithm was trained on synthetic data and can learn from its mistakes by returning and checking its data for logical accuracy.

xAI reports that Grok 3's development was boosted by its eight-month-old Colossus supercomputer. The system, powered by 100,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs, provided 200 mn GPU hours of training, ten times more than its predecessor, Grok 2.

This huge increase in computational capacity has allowed Grok 3 to analyse massive datasets more efficiently, lowering training time and improving accuracy.

Beyond improved computational power, xAI has modified its training approach to enhance Grok 3's capabilities. The model now uses synthetic datasets, self-correction techniques, and reinforcement learning to improve its performance.

Bid to Buy OpenAI

This announcement has come after a Musk-led consortium of investors made a $97.4bn bid to buy ChatGPT maker OpenAI. The purpose of the bid, according to Musk's attorney Marc Toberoff, was to prevent OpenAI from pivoting from a non-profit entity to a for-profit. The group of investors wants to retake control of the tech firm and revert it to its original charitable mission as a nonprofit research lab.

OpenAI chief Sam Altman responded to the bid through an X post stating, “No thank you but we will buy Twitter for $9.74bn if you want."

The sudden advent of DeepSeek in the AI industry has reignited the race to build the most efficient large language model (LLM). Musk with his latest chatbot Grok 3 is aiming to claim the top spot for building the most powerful and efficient LLM model.
