Jason Kothari’s Mythik Raises $15 Mn from Shah Rukh Khan's Family Office, Other Investors

Freecharge CEO Jason Kothari has raised $15 million funding for his media technology company, Mythik. The funding round was led by Sakal Media Group, Venture Catalysts-backed VC Grid, actor Shah Rukh Khan’s family office, and Visceral Capital. Kothari himself has also participated in this funding round.

Other investors include US-based gaming investor Bitkraft, Polygon cofounder Jaynti Kanani, Enam Asset Management group CEO Samir Vora, Cactus Ventures cofounder Anurag Goel, and Avighna Group owner Nishant Aggarwal.

“We are excited about the investors we have brought together and look forward to realising Mythik’s vision and mission to bring Eastern mythology, history and folktales to the forefront of global entertainment and inspire happiness, peace and hope,” said Mythik founder Jason Kothari.

Former Snapdeal executive launched Mythik last month with the aim of bringing Eastern mythology, folktales, and history to a global audience. It’s founding team includes former senior executives from Disney, Netflix, Amazon Studios, Jio, and Tencent.

Mythik has yet to disclose specifics about its upcoming initiatives or when they will be launched.

Kothari’s entrepreneurial journey began during his time at Wharton, where he acquired the bankrupt comic book publisher Valiant Entertainment. He successfully revived the company and eventually sold it to DMG Entertainment for $100 million. He also served as an executive producer on Bloodshot, a film adaptation of a Valiant character starring Vin Diesel.

In 2015, Kothari joined Housing.com and was appointed CEO after founding CEO, Rahul Yadav’s departed. He later took on the role of chief strategy and investment officer at Snapdeal.

As India’s generative AI market heads toward a projected $17 billion valuation by 2030, the entertainment sector is emerging as a key beneficiary of this technological wave.

While tech-focused firms are harnessing AI to optimize operations and develop consumer-facing solutions, entertainment startups are embracing it to enhance storytelling and creative production.
