Tamil Nadu government will give one-gram, 22-carat gold rings to babies born in government hospitals.
The state has allocated ₹755.83 crore for 4,41,667 rings over one year, with the first batch costing around ₹220 crore.
Joyalukkas and Kalyan Jewellers will supply the first 1.28 lakh rings, while a ₹0.01 service-charge bid has sparked debate.
